Recent talk by Professor J Calvin Coffey on the importance of the mesentery at the AIS Channel Winter Event 2017

The new mesentery: does this change surgical oncology?

and panel discussion

As with rectal cancer, surgery for colon cancer has evolved, and with emerging techniques and technology we are able to offer our patients more precise surgery with potentially improved outcomes and less morbidity. However, as new options present themselves, it is right that we attempt to objectively understand the potential and limitations of any change in practice. Do we need to be more radical in the case of CME? Or can we less aggressive in our excision with ESD? Will intracorporeal anastomosis using state-of-the-art robotics head towards day-case colectomies? Or can 4K imaging provide the laparoscopist with further advantages?

On December 15th 2017, we will be hosting this outstading event of the #colorectalsurgery calendar and attempting to answer some of these important questions. The event will be broadcast live from University College London Hospital and chaired by Manish Chand alongside co-chairs Antonio M. Lacy and Steven D. Wexner. Indeed, we will once again bring together an international expert panel to debate the issues and offer live surgery and endoscopy direct to viewers across the world. There will be a number of new innovations to allow immersion in the event with real-time questions and interaction with the audience.

Join us and participate in this tremendous live event which will be followed all over the world!

Gold and silver at international business awards

Connaught Telegraph

Thursday, 10th August, 2017 12:13pm

A MAYO woman has won two international business awards for public relations and communications.

Nicola Corless, a native of Coolaght, Claremorris, will receive a Gold and a Silver Stevie Award at the 14th annual International Business Awards in Barcelona in October in recognition of her work with the marketing and communications division of University of Limerick.

UL was the outright winner in the Communications or PR Campaign of the Year – Global Issues category for which it will receive a Gold Stevie Award. The university marketing and communications division also won a Silver Stevie Award in the Communications or PR Campaign of the Year – Low Budget (Under €7,000) category.

Judges described the public relations campaign, Meet the Mesentery, The Organ Hiding in Plain Sight, led by UL’s communications officer, Nicola, as ‘an excellent showcase of PR skills and story-telling ability’.

This is the second time Nicola’s work has been recognised this year. In June, she was highly commended in the Excellence in Public Relations 2017 Awards, run by the Public Relations Institute of Ireland and the Public Relations Consultants Association.

The International Business Awards are the world’s premier business awards programme. This year entries were received from more than 60 nations and territories.

Nicola, originally from Coolaght, now lives in Ennis, Co. Clare. Before joining UL in September 2016, she worked as a journalist in local, national, international and specialist newsrooms, including The Connaught Telegraph.
